Halloween is over but the most frightening day in the San Francisco calendar year is now upon us,
Election day or as I like to think of it “Electoween!”
Yup, this is where our elected officials get all dressed up in their best costumes and lie through their teeth at us. It’s never trick or treat, but always trick or trickier.
This year there are many important issues on the ballot, but a few that should be closest to the hearts of San Franciscans.
Prop D-the new wall on the waterfront
Prop F-Curbing the lightly restricted Air BnB market
Prop I-Suspension of market rate development in the mission
There are a whole lot of lies flying around the media about these propositions. The powers that Be (TPTB)- want you to believe that voting for these measures will be a death knell for affordable housing, for green space in the mission and worst of all your right to privacy will be taken.
Bullshit, Bullshit, Bullshit!!!!!
Don’t believe a word they say, because you need to FOLLOW THE MONEY. Who is paying for these ads? Who will benefit from the defeat of these propositions.
WHO?
Not YOU!
Let’s take this apart just enough for y’all to look for yourselves before Electoween.
It’s all in the wording
Proposition D–
“Shall the City increase the height limit for 10 of the 28 acres of the Mission Rock site from one story to height limits ranging from 40 to 240 feet and make it City policy to encourage the development on the Mission Rock site provided that it includes eight acres of parks and open space and housing of which at least 33% is affordable for low- and middle-income households?”
Let’s parse this- The first thing they ask for is to change the height limit of up to 28 acres of YOUR coastline, from one story to up to 24 stories, and they say no wall on the waterfront! Are these going to be the affordable homes? I doubt it. They will sit close enough to AT&T Park and along Terry Francois Blvd to make them outrageously expensive. For use of the ultra wealthy and corporate headquarters.
Maybe THIS is the beginning of Trump’s wall? Except instead of blocking out illegal Mexicans, it blocks middle class and poor folk from coming into SF? The second flag in this statement is the word “encourage”. Not demand, Not make mandatory, but encourage, urge, promote, foster.
“Sir, may I have more pudding?”
“More Pudding!!!…………………
Do you actually think these folks will be encouraged for anything other than plunder? They are not being forced to add park lands, nor middle class housing, only encouraged.
The Fundamental question is why should we believe them now when all along they have been screwing us? Are they going to change? Builders ( Who actually donate so much money and add so much into the tax coffers, are running the vision of this city). Are they all of a sudden going to care about the middle class or the poor?
Fuck no!
They care about making money. As much and as fast as possible.
Proposition F-
This one is the biggest scream fest of them all. Not because it’s does worse things to SF than the others, but because of it’s bald faced pandering, lying and fear mongering to the public.
They say it will invade your privacy and cause millions of dollars on false lawsuits. It will pit neighbor against neighbor in a cage match that can only end in death!!!!
BULLSHIT!!
IT seeks only to regulate a market that has become out of control and a source of contention in the city. A market that has been abused by developers.
Here’s the wording-Read and Believe
Shall the City limit short-term rentals of a housing unit to 75 days per year regardless of whether the rental is hosted or unhosted; require owners to provide proof that they authorize the unit as a short-term rental; require residents who offer short-term rentals to submit quarterly reports on the number of days they live in the unit and the number of days the unit is rented; prohibit short-term rentals of in-law units; allow interested parties to sue hosting platforms; and make it a misdemeanor for a hosting platform to unlawfully list a unit as a short-term rental?
Who should we ask is funding this anti-privacy campaign? Air BnB of Course.
Follow the MONEY!!
Proposition I-
This one scares the piss out of our public servants so much that they are banding together to save their financial interests.
All this measure does is say wait, take a breath and let’s not lose ourselves in the feeding frenzy of development. It does not stop low and middle income housing projects, I does seek to prevent PDR business from being tossed out of the city-even if it is for only 18 months.
18 months!!!! that’s all-and just in the mission. Why not breathe? Why not wait?
Because like great con men, TPTB want to confuse you and move your attention away from the real issues. Their pursuit of wealth.
Here’s the text;
Shall the City suspend the issuance of permits on certain types of housing and business development projects in the Mission District for at least 18 months; and develop a Neighborhood Stabilization Plan for the Mission District by January 31, 2017?
Breathe, Wait, Think, Decide….. as a city, not behind closed doors (Even though they are supposedly open). Not as a business interest and not as a crazed bunch of lawmakers in the middle of a drunken feeding frenzy that reminds one of a Bacchanalian orgy rather than a thoughtful group of elected representatives!
Breathe……
It all comes down to the MONEY and what are you going to do about it. This is your city, my city, but not Their city. Like locusts they will come and eat all of our crops until there is nothing left, and then will move on to a better feeding ground.
